Regular Football Season Concludes- OHSAA Tournament Information
The 2012 football season seemed to end as quickly as it began. Friday October 26th marked the final night of the regular high school football season. It also marked the final division game for the GWOC football teams, some of which determined who would be crowned with their respective division title.
Teams within the Central division faced fierce competition throughout the season as multiple teams shared the leading division record. Prior to Friday's games, three teams - Beavercreek, Northmont and Wayne- were all tied for first. That was destined to change however as Northmont was scheduled to play Wayne, leaving only one of them in the leading position, which turned out to be Northmont in a close 14-11 game against Wayne. Beavercreek held off its opponenet, Fairmont, to share the Central division title with Northmont.
In the North division, Trotwood and Butler were both leading with 4-0 division records but faced off during the final week for the sole title ownership. Trotwood came out on top to earn itself the North division champion title while Butler finished second with a 4-1 division record.
The South division saw fewer teams tied in first throughout the season as Springboro primarily lead the field. Miamisburg, Lebanon and Xenia followed but a couple losses pushed Lebanon and Xenia out of the championship running. Miamisburg finished the season strong with a 4-1 record while Springboro defeated Lebanon to earn its 5-0 record and the South division title.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) recently released the regional football pairings for the 2012 OHSAA Football Tournament. Trotwood will play Friday November 2nd at 7:30pm at Mount Healthy (bracket). Springboro and Wayne will both play Saturday November 3rd at 7:00pm (bracket). Springboro will take on Lakota East at Springboro while Wayne will face Moeller at Lockland Stadium. Good luck to teams playing this week and thank you to all GWOC teams for another great football season!
