Three-Day Weekend Wrap-Up

It was a busy weekend for high school sports. All but one GWOC football team played in fifteen games, of which ten resulted in GWOC wins. Trotwood and Beavercreek played exceptional games, both holding their opponents at 0. There was another winner Friday night, but it wasn't a football team. Congratulations to the Springboro band which earned Touchdown 7's Band of the Week! On Saturday night, Wayne not only faced Canton McKinley, but also nearly four hours of weather delays and game play on a soaked field.

Friday night also hosted boys golf, Butler and Troy, at Cassel Hills Golf Course in Vandalia. With the top four players split between the teams, it was a close match but Troy came out on top with a 170 while Butler finished with a 164. Saturday brought out both boys and girls soccer. The boys of Beavercreek beat Perrysburg 3-1 while the Lady Beavers shut out their opponent 8-0. There were also four more wins for the lady GWOC soccer teams Saturday.

Saturday also saw a busy girls volleyball schedule, some teams competing in two games. Centerville, Wayne, Fairborn and Northmont all finished with a win while Springboro won both of its games. Cross country teams were also out and about Saturday. The boys cross country teams of Miamisburg and Beavercreek finished in the top five at the Miamisburg Invitational: Miamisburg 2nd, Beavercreek 5th. At the same event, the girls teams of Beavercreek and Miamisburg also finished in the top five: Beavercreek 3rd, Miamisburg 4th. GWOC cross country teams also participated in the Warrior Invitational at Lebanon. The boys team of Troy finished second overall while the girls team of Springboro finished first and the girls team of Centerville finished fourth.

Great job to all- looking forward to another week of GWOC fall sports!
